Jayco Inc was founded in 1968, by Amish man, Lloyd J Bontrager, a family man and inventor, who developed his own prototype camping trailer, with a unique, patented, lifter system that is still in use today.
The company started on their farm, in two chicken houses and a barn. By the end of 1968, there were 15 employees, and the company had sold 132 units. Today, there are nearly 1,600 employees, with more than 25,000 units sold each year, mostly in the USA.
The company now builds a variety of recreational vehicles, including folding campers, fifth wheelers, caravans and 'C' & 'A' class motor homes, in its factory in Middlebury, Indiana.
